Jersey City Farmer's Market-Summer Fresh Vegetables!-August 12, 2010

There is nothing better than farm fresh vegetables. It's good for you and it's good for the environment by reducing your carbon footprint! There's nothing better than summer fresh corn with dinner!

Summer is here and the Annual Jersey Fresh Farmers Markets are in full swing all over Jersey City. Jersey Fresh is an advertising and promotional program developed by the New Jersey Department of Agriculture in 1983 to publicize the wide variety of fruits and vegetables which are grown here in the Garden State, providing delicious nutritional fresh fruits and vegetables at reasonable prices.

Jersey City now has seven of Hudson County’s Jersey Fresh Farmers Markets. Consumers can find a wide variety of goods, including fresh organic and conventional fruits and vegetables, baked goods, seafood, fresh mozzarella, pickles, and flowers. While vendors and goods vary seasonally from market to market, all Jersey Fresh Community Markets include some vendors who accept Women, Infants, Children (WIC) and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) vouchers.

Kicking off the onslaught of fresh fruits and vegetables here in the Gold Coast is the Grove Path Plaza Farmers Market, held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Mondays and Thursdays, and will run until December 23rd.

The Hamilton Park Farmers Market will take up residence in the newly refurbished park from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesdays throughout the summer and into the fall.

New this year are the indoor Newport Centre Mall Farmers Market, located betweeen Macy's and Kohl's on Tuesdays, noon to 7:00 p.m., and the Webb Park Farmers Market which will run from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. every Saturday until October 30th, 2010.

The Van Vorst Farmers Market runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays until November.

The Journal Square Farmers Market, at the Journal Square PATH Station, is held on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. until Thanksgiving.
